Mercedes 7G-Tronic (722.9) can enter limp mode, remain in one gear or display a transmission warning. One possible cause is the VGS electronic control unit with integrated speed sensors. Similar symptoms can have other causes.

When to contact us

  • The gearbox stays in limp mode or does not shift.
  • A transmission warning appears on the dashboard.
  • Diagnostic codes concern speed sensors or VGS communication.

What we check and repair

We identify the part number, VGS generation and fault codes. We check power supply, communication, electronic circuits and available sensor signals. If an electronics fault is confirmed, we discuss board repair or preparing a compatible replacement.

What to provide

For a removed unit, please send its label photo, part number, vehicle model and diagnostic report. Programming or adaptation on the vehicle may be required after installation.

When the vehicle comes to our workshop

For VGS repairs on the vehicle, we carry out the work needed to remove and reinstall the unit inside the automatic transmission. After disassembly and repair, we replace the transmission fluid in the relevant part of the gearbox according to the 7G-Tronic design. If the customer brings or sends a unit that has already been removed, we repair the unit only; no vehicle fluid change is included.

Important

This service covers VGS control electronics, not the valve body, torque converter or mechanical gearbox.
