FRM BMW / MINI — Diagnostics & Recovery
Lighting, power windows and module communication
Thematic AI illustration
Part of the lighting or power windows not working, or diagnostics cannot see the FRM module? The cause can be the module itself, its power supply, the wiring or related components. We will check the fault and determine whether recovery is possible.
For supported versions we perform data recovery, repair or preparation of a compatible replacement module based on the inspection results. You can come with the car or arrange shipping of the FRM in advance.
Work on a read file is available only for supported variants and does not replace hardware inspection. After installation, coding and function checks on the car may be required.
Possible symptoms
// Symptoms alone do not establish a diagnosis — the check confirms the cause.
- Part of the exterior lighting is not working: headlights, side lights, indicators or backlighting — with no clear pattern.
- Power windows or mirrors are not working — usually on the driver's side, but the restrictions vary.
- The diagnostic tool cannot establish communication with the FRM or shows several unrelated faults at once.
- The fault appeared after failed programming, a battery disconnection or moisture ingress.
What we check
- FRM power supply and ground, fuses and connector condition.
- Presence and quality of communication with the module over the diagnostic line — on the car or on the bench.
- The state of the module data and the reason the functions stopped working.
- Related components: wiring and actuators — so their failure is not mistaken for an FRM failure.
Work options after diagnostics
Data recovery
For supported FRM versions we recover the module data when the hardware is sound.
Module repair
Hardware repair of the FRM, including modules after failed programming attempts.
Replacement prep
Preparation of a compatible replacement module for your car based on the inspection results.
Direction elsewhere
If the module is beyond recovery or the cause is outside the FRM — we say so directly and explain the options.
What the client receives
- A description of the recovery work and checks performed — what was fixed and how it was confirmed.
- Installation recommendations: what to connect, what to code, and the order in which to check the functions.
- A clear answer on the work format — car, unit or file — with real timing after the inspection.
Car, unit or file
With the car
The primary format: we check the module on the car and finish with a final function check.
Shipping the unit
Possible by prior arrangement: remove and ship the FRM with its label and a description.
Work by file
Available only for supported variants and does not replace hardware inspection: if the problem is in the hardware, the file will not show it.
What information we need
- Make, model and year of the car.
- A photo of the full FRM number from the case label.
- The list of functions that stopped working.
- The circumstances of the fault and a diagnostic report, if available.
- Details of any previous work on the module or electrics.
Limitations and after installation
- After module installation, coding and function checks on the car may be required.
- A bench check of the FRM does not mean all vehicle circuits are sound: wiring and actuators are checked in place.
- Recoverability is confirmed by number, photo and report before work begins — we do not promise results in advance.
Expand for specialists
The technical block for workshops and specialists — scope, formats and limitations, no marketing.
- We work with different FRM versions, including modules after failed flashing. Supported revisions are confirmed by the full number and photo — we do not publish a general year-based list.
- File format: state read, data recovery, file return. We do not accept files without a photo of the label.
- On the bench we check power, communication and data integrity; we look for hardware faults by external signs before promising a result.
- FRM is not confused with FEM/BDC: other generations are handled through the respective services, but the check comes first.
FAQ
Can I send just the FRM without the car?
Yes — by prior arrangement. Pack the unit with its label and a problem description; after the check you receive a report.
How do I know if my FRM is supported?
Send the full number and a photo of the label — we confirm recoverability before work begins.
What does the inspection include?
Power, ground, module communication, data state and a review of related components — to find the cause, not just the symptom.
Is adaptation needed after installation?
Usually yes: coding and function checks on the car. You receive step-by-step recommendations.
When are price and timing agreed?
After the inspection — before work begins. If the module is beyond recovery, you get a report and options with no charge for promises.
