Airbag Control Module Inspection After a Crash

Airbag Control Module Inspection After a Crash

Airbag warning light on after a collision, or a scan shows that the accident was recorded? We inspect the airbag control unit (SRS) and check whether its stored data can be serviced appropriately or the unit needs replacing. Important: deleting a crash record does not repair deployed airbags or seatbelts. Damaged components still need proper inspection and repair.

    Inspect the airbag control unit

We identify the module and review the available messages. We distinguish the record of a collision from other faults involving airbags, seatbelts and sensors.

Check whether the module can be serviced

Some units allow data to be read and appropriate procedures to be carried out. For others, the manufacturer requires replacement after deployment. We assess the options for the specific unit first.

    Discuss servicing or replacement

After inspection, we explain whether the stored record may be serviced or the manufacturer requires a replacement. We do not hide active faults simply to switch off the warning light.

    Explain the remaining safety checks

After work on the unit, we check communication and available faults. Airbags, seatbelts, sensors and wiring still need full inspection on the car according to the manufacturer’s requirements.

Identify and assess the control unit

We check which unit is fitted and what fault messages or crash records are available.

Save accessible data where possible

If supported, we save available information before carrying out agreed work.

Assess servicing versus replacement

We check whether module servicing is permitted. If not, we discuss replacement.

Explain vehicle repairs still needed

Deployed airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, sensors and wiring must be inspected and replaced where required by the manufacturer.

Check after installation

The complete SRS system needs diagnostics, not just a dashboard with no warning light.

Explain findings and next steps

We tell you what was checked in the unit and what remains to be inspected on the vehicle.

Airbags and seatbelts may have deployed

These parts may require replacement. Deleting stored records does not restore them.

Some control units must be replaced

Requirements depend on the model and manufacturer. Not every unit can be serviced.

Module data may not be accessible

If memory cannot be read or a procedure is unsupported, we cannot promise recovery.

SRS is the airbag and seatbelt system

Steering-angle and battery modules are different systems. Servicing them does not repair the airbags.

An unlit warning lamp does not prove safety

Airbags, seatbelts, sensors, wiring and the system’s operation need in-car inspection.

It matters what work was carried out

We explain exactly what was done to the module and which vehicle checks remain.

// SUMMARY: A module check alone does not prove a vehicle is safe. After an accident, damaged parts must be repaired and the entire SRS system checked to the manufacturer’s requirements.

Important: removing a stored crash record does not repair airbags, seatbelt pretensioners or other damaged parts. After a collision, the car needs repair and a full safety-system inspection according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Some SRS units must be replaced.
